HTTP to HTTPS : What steps to take minimize SEO damage?


Anyone know of a good resource that explains all the steps to take to minimize damage? Or perhaps you've recently gone through the change and have an essential checklist that you could share with your fellow Redditors?

You need to follow few important steps: 
1: Redirect all pages accordingly to new pages (HTTP to HTTPs). 
2: Don't remove meta tags (Change if needed). 
3: Make changes in rel=canonical tags 
4: Keep Monitoring Search console (old name webmaster tools) 
5: Change Both sitemap.XML and HTML. 
6: keep checking 404 and Soft 404 errors in search console. 
7: Make changes in URLs/links on every page.

That's going to be the big one. You'll also want to setup both http and https in Google Search Console and tell Google to prefer https
